Blue Nation vs Red Nation

For the last year, I have sought to depict the stark political divide among people in South Korea, where red and blue have come to symbolize the two main opposing political parties. This division has led to a palpable hostility between the two groups, causing a breakdown in communication and a disconnected reality of alternate truths. To emphasize this division, I used selective coloring, highlighting only red or blue in my photos and leaving the rest desaturated to represent how political polarization can reduce the world to a binary 'us' versus 'them.' I hoped that this artistic choice would symbolize the narrowed perspective that comes with intense political loyalty.
